When we saw the result on screen, it was sheer joy." "The action pieces were carefully choreographed and the actors had some tough moves involving risks, but they were thoroughly professional about it. About 50 per cent of the shoot had to happen at night and it tested our physical immunity and mental strength as we had to shoot in tough conditions," says Mohanakrishna. "Shooting V was exhausting but also exhilarating. I can't ask for anything more as a director," he says. They are gifted with great intuition and consummate craft. What made Mohankrishna choose Aditi Rao Hydari and Nivetha Thomas for the film? He goes to any extent to achieve what he believes in and there is a good soul to it." It is a highly motivated, strong character. He is a very strong character and breaks the rules here and there to achieve his goal. "It's like attending your favourite teacher's subject but this time, he is teaching a different subject and still there is something to learn from him." He is able to deal with different genres very easily." "Mohanakrishna has a very good knowledge not just on cinema, but also current affairs. "Even if you watch it now, you feel find it fresh. For generations, people can still watch his films, be it Sammohanam or Ashta Chamma, which he did with Nani 10 years ago." He doesn't try to portray what is not true and his films majorly stay back in our lives. He is the most under-utilised actor in Telugu and I hope film-makers in Telugu see his potential and offer him meaty roles." His performance is brilliantly nuanced and consistent. "Sudheer is always ready for a challenge. "Nani was totally game to play the antagonist despite the fact that it's his 25th film. I can confidently say that no one else could have done these roles better than Nani and Sudheer." Mohanakrishna shares his casting choices: "Both are brilliant actors in their own way, and I am very comfortable with them. This is Mohankrishna's third film with Nani and his second with Sudheer. It has got powerful action elements along with strong emotional drama and dark humour." "It is my attempt at blending film noir with the multi-starrer emotional dramas that our audiences love in India - a mix of Seven and Deewar. "It is inspired by some real life incidents in Hyderabad from the early 2000s. "It is a mystery action drama a battle of wits between an idealistic cop played by Sudheer and a ruthless serial killer, played by Nani," he says. Mohanakrishna tells us what to expect from the film. "One can see the huge response when we released the trailer. "When we release on OTT, it will release almost in 200 plus territories outside India - the scale is bigger than a theatrical release. But after the discussion with Amazon ( Prime), I felt this was a good opportunity. Sudheer Babu, who stars in the film, agrees: "Initially, I was a little hesitant because I felt this is an action drama and watching it on a big screen with good sound would be a good idea. "Also, because it will have a massive reach in terms of viewership - probably much more than a regular theatrical release," he adds.

It’s right there! That being said, I’m guessing that a lot of folks are put off by it. Then I remembered reading of the three different color motifs for the three storylines. This is just one of many responses I’m getting about Ordinary Joe lately, from those who’ve chosen to embrace it - and others who’ve already had enough. But it is intriguing to think how this would have played if they’d made the central character a woman. Perhaps others could suggest other storylines. I even have some script suggestions: She marries the childhood sweetheart or she decides to devote herself to a career that demands total immersion in the wilderness for years, if not for life, or while volunteering on a political campaign she falls for the politician but then decides she would do a better job. My suggestion for the sequel is Ordinary Jane. Just about everyone reflects on those Robert Frost “two roads (or three) diverged in the woods” moment. Here’s the show’s star, James Wolk, discussing this topic during a Television Critics Association session: “There is no right choice, and we make the best of what we have. One isn’t necessarily meant to be seen as better than another. Question: I also am very interested in NBC’s Ordinary Joe and its uniqueness. Plus, the showrunners of the NBC series unveil the real-life inspiration behind the show's 'what if' storylines. And while I’m no expert on the subject of streaming deals and the syndicated or digital afterlife of shows, you’d have to think by committing to producing a ’90s spinoff, it would sweeten the deal for Netflix to be able to license the original series again. Keep in mind that when Fox attempted a That ’80s Show spinoff, it crashed and burned - but it didn’t have the wonderful Red and Kitty as an anchor. Matt Roush: While it’s hard for me to get excited about most reboots - where did the new ideas go? - I’m cautiously optimistic about this, though I share your horror that the 1990s are apparently such a distant memory that we’re now looking back on the decade through nostalgic lenses. Any word on if this means Netflix will be adding the original series back to its lineup? It doesn’t currently seem to be streaming, and it seems like they could achieve some synergy by having the original if they are airing a new version. ![]() I can’t wait to see what they do with it, and which other characters they bring back. Myers portrays Steve’s ambivalence and deep emotions through a variety of means in his journal narration and screenplay flashback scenes. This style is extremely successful for a young adult reader as it propels the story quickly and the movie format is one with which young adults quickly can connect and comprehend. Myers takes a unique approach in Monster by combining a first-person narrative told through a screenplay with personal journal notations presented in a handwritten style typeface. As the trial proceeds Steve shares his inner turmoil about the decisions he has made leading up to the robbery and his terror anticipating a possible life sentence. Other characters include Richard “Bobo” Evans who has taken a plea deal from the district attorney in exchange for his testimony and the dedicated public defender Kathy O’Brien. Steve’s neighborhood acquaintance James King is on trial with him but defended by a separate attorney. Steve maintains his innocence but through flashbacks in the screenplay we learn that his innocence may be somewhat ambiguous. The setting is Harlem, present day and told in first person by Steve who copes with the stress of the trial by writing the events of the trial as a screenplay. Sixteen year old Steve Harmon is on trial for a murder committed during a neighborhood store robbery. ![]() ![]() It’s a game set in an alternate universe of the Warhammer Fantasy setting where disputes are settled with hyper-aggressive games of the Rugby/American Football analogue ‘Blood Bowl’, instead of a mighty clash of armies. If you want to get technical, Blood Bowl isn’t actually a Warhammer Fantasy game. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s an excellent digital introduction to the setting, and a worthy representation for existing fans. Storm Ground offers some pretty decent turn-based action, with three of the setting’s iconic factions – including the Stormguard Eternals – brought to life with unique playstyles and units. Before this point, Games Workshop had been slow to license the new setting out, with some casual-focused mobile games being the main focus. Here is a list of excellent Warhammer games:ĭespite the fact we had muted feelings for Storm Ground, it is worth highlighting mainly because it’s the first decent Age of Sigmar strategy game to come out since the tabletop game slew its older Warhammer Fantasy Battles sibling six years ago. We’ve also not strictly speaking gone for the ‘best of the best’, although most of these options are considered pretty good we’ve chosen notable titles that are worth highlighting for more specific reasons as well. We were going to keep it 50/50 but to be honest there are far less fantasy games than 40k games, and far more mediocre choices at that. ![]() With that in mind, we’ve compiled a round-up our top picks of games from fantasy land, as well as the grim darkness of the far future. Thankfully, things are getting better, and as things get better more Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 games are starting to appear that are worth checking out if you’re fans of either of Games Workshops’ iconic tabletop settings. The company has been quite reserved about it in the past – even despite some very high-profile successes in the early days – but even when it finally started to open the gates more generally it took a while for the quality to match the demand. Games Workshop has a complicated history with licensed Warhammer games. After the dramatic triumph of Ninja Theory’s last game, Enslaved, it shouldn’t surprise you that I’m back to devote another paragraph to the characters’ performances in this game, which do so much to sell what, again, probably should have been a complete joke of a storyline. The game also knows when to rein it in, though. When acting is required, it’s amazing how effective real actors can be. The best sort of dumb fun is the kind that knows how dumb it is, and I consistently got the sense from Devil May Cry knew that the entire time I was playing it. Dante talks a constant stream of shit to Vergil and just about anyone else who gets in his way, and there’s something uncomfortable and a little dissonant about a 50-foot ancient grub-demon screeching “FUCK YOOOOOUUUUU!!!” right back at him. And he makes a great foil for his brother Vergil, who’s more of an uppity, refined ideologue fighting the good fight against the demons. Dante may be a smirking wiseass, but his lines are witty enough and delivered with so much panache, you quickly grow to like him anyway. I think it became easy to like Devil May Cry because it seems somewhat aware of itself the game is so damn committed to having fun with its absurdity, you can’t help having fun along with it. Then later I gave up the guilt and just flung myself wholeheartedly into the cyclone of nonsense. I pretty much went into the game consciously expecting to hate all of this, or at least view it as the sort of eye-rolling embarrassment video games are usually so good at delivering. Then, oddly, I started feeling a guilty pleasure at how much I was actually enjoying the spectacle. And then there’s Dante, remade in the image of a club-kid layabout who’s so sneeringly self-satisfied he defies any attempt you might make to identify with him. As a character action game, it hits all the notes–fast, robust action, marvelous visual style, and a tremendous sense of attitude–you could want in this type of game.To be fair, on paper, everything about Devil May Cry sounds like the tritest video game pap: a bloody war between angels and devils, endless hordes of demonic enemies straight from your favorite ’80s heavy metal album art, and all of it punctuated by Scandinavian “hellektro” outfit Combichrist’s thudding soundtrack. Everything in this new game exists in service of making it a great game in its own right, not in stoking your nostalgia for the games you played over the last decade. Names like Dante, Vergil, and Mundus return, but the world they inhabit and the roles they play out are only passingly similar to what you knew of them before. ![]() The reborn Devil May Cryfrom Ninja Theoryexemplifies what it is to really get down in the dirt and reimagine a hallowed franchise from the ground up, bringing back only the broadest character traits and relationships but leaving behind everything else about the old that gets in the way of creating a singular, cohesive new. ![]() ![]() There’s enough combat variety here to support multiple playthroughs. ![]() Ne-Yo was the songwriter du jour of the late ‘00s, with his dreamy POV on romance taking over charts and radio. Emotions rise as the song continues, with Rihanna hoping that naysayers don’t assume they know who she really is based on what they see in the media: “I guess the kind of songs that I’ve been singing make it seem as if I’m always winning / But you saw me on a television.” She urges that there’s two sides to every story. She addressed the building pressure on “Half Of Me,” calling upon British singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé to help let the emotional curtains fall. “Half Of Me” ( Unapologetic, 2012)Īt this point in her career, Rihanna’s every move was picked apart by critics and so-called fans alike. ASAP Rocky later hopped on the official remix, foreshadowing the pair’s magnetic energy that has now blossomed into Hollywood’s hottest relationship. Atop Bangladesh’s frenetic production, Rihanna goes full dominatrix as she explicitly details how she wants her sex slave to perform: “Suck my cockiness, lick my persuasion.” But the track doesn’t take itself too seriously, as Rih flips between cheeky taunts, an entire ‘90s dancehall queen verse, and a coquettish chorus. On this Talk This Talk single, the singer is boldly talking that talk. Only Rihanna can make cunnilingus sound gangsta. It’s a shame the song is tossed at the very end of Unapologetic, leaving its presence a hidden gem only to be cherished by diehard fans. But here, in her most delicate tone, Rihanna assures the storm will only pass if “you just f*cking rain” and let it all out. As humans, it’s natural for us to keep the darkest corners of our emotions bottled inside. One of her most underrated tracks, “Get It Over With” is a downtempo clouded by weed smoke crafted by frequent collaborator and songwriter James Fauntleroy. In the video, all Timberlake can do is play in the background and give Rih control to steer her side of the story. She sounds mentally and emotionally exhausted from her relationship’s toll. But while the mournful melody remains nearly the same, it’s Rih’s vocal delivery that makes “Rehab” all her own. ![]() Okay, let’s get the obvious out the way now: Justin Timberlake and Timbaland clearly tried to recreate the magic that’s “What Goes Around…Comes Around.” The pair just worked together on FutureSex/LoveSounds just a year prior, and extended the lovesick sound to Rihanna. It’s a bare-bones midtempo that finds the singer pushing her lilting Bajan accent to the forefront while looking back on one-sided love: “Hand inna di air as he waved me goodbye / He seh he care, but no tears in his eyes”. While most of her reggae or dancehall-inspired tracks are fused with other sounds, “No Love Allowed” keeps things rugged and true to the roots. Rihanna stuffs pockets of her Caribbean heritage in all her albums, but this Unapologetic deep cut often gets overlooked. She transforms into the cockiest ATL gangsta while assuring “Imma never put a n***a above this money”. But rather than being his equal, Rih takes her previous collaborator’s words and shapes them into her own. On “Nothing Is Promised,” she adopts Future’s distinct warbled flow, who serves as the song’s co-writer. Just like Beyoncé, Rihanna can out-rap a lot of your faves. Women rappers have risen again as the genre’s dominant force over the past few years, and even the top R&B ladies joined the fun. Whether she’s breaking multiple Billboard chart records, becoming the first Black women to oversee a luxury fashion brand under LVMH, acting alongside film greats like Steve Martin and Sandra Bullock, giving back to her community as a fierce philanthropist, founding a groundbreaking makeup and lingerie line that both created a snowball effect of inclusivity, or just wholeheartedly being her silly Pisces self on social media, it’s crystal clear that - as she stated on 2009’s prophetic “Hard” - Rihanna’s reign just won’t let up.Īs a reminder of Rihanna’s massive, genre-bending and innovative discography, we present a ranking of our favorite songs.
